    How to Participate in an Auction

    Participating in a MACHO NUMISMATIC GALLERIES auction is easy – you can bid in person, by telephone, through Live Bidding or by placing Pre-bids.

    Participation & Registration Requirements

    Individual Bidders

    You may participate in an auction and acquire purchased lots only in your own name and for your own account. Participation is subject to registration and identity verification. Registration is required for all bidding methods.

    If you are bidding in person, registration and identity verification can be completed at the venue. For Telephone Bidding, Live Bidding and Pre-bids, registration must be completed in advance.

    Corporate Bidders

    If you intend to bid on behalf of a company or other legal entity, you will be required to provide the relevant documents to verify the legal entity, the person authorised to act on its behalf and its ultimate beneficial owners.

    Corporate registration must be completed in advance, regardless of the bidding method.

    Please contact us well in advance, at least 10 business days before the auction.

    Auction Terms and Conditions

    In accordance with applicable laws and regulations, we may in certain cases request additional information or documentation necessary to meet our legal obligations.

    Direct (in-person) participation in the auction room

    If you are planning to attend the auction in person in the auction room, a member of our staff will take you through the registration process before the auction starts.

    Please have a valid form of identification ready. When registering, you will be asked to fill in the registration form and a GDPR consent form. As part of the registration process, you will be assigned a bidder number which you will use to bid. As per usual, you may bid by raising your bidder number so that the auctioneer can see it. At the end of each lot, the auctioneer will announce the final bid price and the bidder number of the successful bidder.

    Participating directly in the auction room brings the following benefits:

    • 1The items are available for viewing in the auction room one hour before the start of the auction and also during the auction.
    • 2When multiple bidders bid the same amount, a bidder in the auction room takes precedence over online bidders.
    • 3During or after the auction, you can collect your invoice or make a cash payment of up to €5,000.
    • 4When buying items with a cumulative value of more than €10,000 including the buyer’s premium, each client must undergo the Know Your Customer (KYC) process in accordance with the statutory KYC obligations. When you attend the auction in person, you can save time by completing this process directly at the auction.

    Phone bidding

    If you are interested in bidding over the phone, please contact us sufficiently early, no later than 3 days prior to the auction.

    When you register, you will be asked to send us a completed registration form , the GDPR consent form and a scan of your ID. On the day of the auction, you will receive a phone call in advance from our phone bidder, who will introduce themselves, and you will then be called a few minutes prior to the lot(s) you are interested in bidding on. The phone bidder will make bids on your behalf at the auction as if you were personally present in the auction room.

    Phone bidding has the following advantages:

    • 1You don’t have to watch the entire auction and risk missing out on bidding on an item you were interested in.
    • 2You don’t have to travel or risk experiencing problems with your internet connection.
    • 3In case of technical problems during the call, the auctioneer can wait a while or skip the lot and come back to it later.

    I am a new bidder

    If you plan to participate in the auction online, please register via our online auction platform available on this page.

    Please do so sufficiently early, at least 24 hours before the auction starts.Upon registration, you will be given a credit limit of €10,000. Should you wish to increase your credit limit, please contact us sufficiently in advance, no later than 3 days before the auction. In order to assess your application, we may require additional information from you to prove your identity, references, financial security, etc.

    Please note that during registration you may be asked to verify your personal data through a secure and trustworthy online service. In the verification process, you will need your ID card and smartphone. Clients who do not successfully complete the verification process will not be allowed to bid in the auction.

    If you have registered in the past, please check and, if necessary, update your detailsas well as your credit limit to ensure a smooth auction.

    3 steps to successful bidding

      Register via our online auction platform available on this page.

    • 2You will receive a link by e-mail. Click on it to complete your registration.
    • 3On the day of the auction, use your credentials to log in to the online auction platform and you can start bidding.

    How does online bidding work?

    Once you have successfully registered, all you have to do is log in to the online auction platform on the day of the auction. You can use the platform in the following three languages - Slovak, Czech and English.

    After clicking on “Current auction”, you will see the current auctioned lot and its starting bid. You can also turn on the sound, which is transmitted in real time directly from the auction room. When you want to join the auction, just click to confirm your bid.

    All you need is the latest version of your Internet browser, e.g., Mozilla, Safari, Firefox, Google Chrome or Microsoft Edge. You can participate in the auction via your smartphone, tablet, laptop or desktop. There is no need to install any additional plugins such as Java, Flash, etc.

    Pre-bids

    Registered participants can bid on the auction items in real time via our online auction platform or enter their Pre-bids prior to the auction.

    You can submit your Pre-bids before the auction via the online auction platform. Please note that your credit limit is a common limit for bidding via the online auction platform as well as for your Pre-bids.

    Benefits and risks of bidding via the online auction platform:

    • You can easily participate in the auction from the comfort of your living room, the beach or any other location. All you need is access to the internet, early registration and early approval of your credit limit increase.
    • Pre-bids take priority. When multiple bidders bid the same amount, the Pre-bid takes priority over the bids made in the auction room as well as online bids. Please note, however, that in all other cases, a bidder in the auction room has priority over an online bidder.
    • Bidding via the online auction platform also entails risks associated with possible internet outages or other technical problems and if you miss an item which you were interested in bidding on, there is no way to return to it.

    All of the above information and time limits apply to natural persons. If you wish to bid as a legal person, please refer to the bidding conditions and time limits for legal persons.
