Catalogue highlights
The catalogue brings together Kremnitz issues from Rudolf II to Francis II Rákóczi in a standalone collection. At its core are remarkably comprehensive series of ducats and thalers, complemented by selected thaler multiples, thick-flan strikes and other rare issues.
The extraordinary completeness of the collection is best illustrated by the numbers: of 133 documented ducat dates, 131 are represented, while 99 of 102 documented thaler dates are included. The collection also contains coins not represented in the Wiener Münzkabinett, as well as numerous hitherto unpublished die and legend variants.
Equally remarkable is the scholarship behind the collection. Over several decades, Jaroslav Kokolus built a proprietary database documenting appearances, provenances and the market history of individual specimens. In some cases, he was able to trace their paths through major collections and auctions going back nearly 150 years.
The catalogue therefore documents not merely a group of individual coins, but an exceptionally coherent collection shaped by decades of knowledge, patience and collecting instinct – one of the most comprehensive collections of Kremnitz coinage ever assembled in private hands.
