Pattern Strike 5 Kč 1925

Otto Gutfreund’s five-koruna coin was created under time pressure and through a series of modifications documented by pattern strikes. One of them combines Gutfreund’s reverse with the obverse of the 1921 20-haléř pattern. Only two specimens are known – one of them, from the collection of František Trefanec, will be offered in Auction #40 as Lot 1188.

The new denomination failed to take root and most pieces were melted down – today it ranks among the rarest silver coins of the groschen period. An English-type half-groschen, most likely struck for the 1311 coronation, will be offered in Auction #40 as Lot 1020.
