Some objects are more than furniture – they are witnesses to a story. This coin cabinet is one of them: for decades it held the collection of František Trefanec (1904–1983), a banking professional and systematic collector who built his collection during the First Czechoslovak Republic. After his death, the collection and its cabinet remained virtually untouched for decades. You can read the full story in the article The František Trefanec Collection.
Now the TREFANEC COLLECTION is returning to collectors in MACHO NUMISMATIC GALLERIES Auction #40. Alongside the collection, the cabinet in which it was kept is also looking for a new owner. We have decided to give it to one of the bidders who take part of the Trefanec collection home – so the coins can return to where they belong.
The winner will be drawn on 15 November 2026.
A cabinet with a story
This First Republic coin cabinet was custom-made to house the collection. Its solid oak body holds 36 spruce drawers lined with period paper. The cabinet is well preserved and remained unused for decades. It is an exceptional piece for collectors and lovers of antiques alike – and a tangible reminder of a remarkable collecting story.

How to enter
1. Win at least one lot from the TREFANEC COLLECTION:
- in the floor Auction #40 on 23 October 2026 at the Mandarin Oriental hotel in Prague, or
- in the eLive Auction #40 from 26 to 30 October 2026, daily from 6:00 p.m., online via AUEX.
2. Email us by 14 November 2026 at info@machogalleries.com with the subject “Giveaway – cabinet” and include your first and last name.
FIRST REPUBLIC COIN CABINET GIVEAWAY – OFFICIAL RULES
(hereinafter the “Rules”)

2. Giveaway Period
The giveaway runs from 12 October 2026 to 14 November 2026 (inclusive).
The prize draw will take place on 15 November 2026.
3. Eligibility and How to Enter
Any bidder may enter who:
a) wins at least one lot from the TREFANEC COLLECTION in the floor Auction #40 (23 October 2026) or the eLive Auction #40 (26–30 October 2026),
b) pays for the lot in full in accordance with the auction terms and conditions,
c) by 14 November 2026 sends an email to info@machogalleries.com with the subject “Giveaway – cabinet” stating their first and last name.
Each bidder is entered into the draw once, regardless of the number of lots won or emails sent.
4. Prize
The winner will receive a First Republic coin cabinet with 36 drawers, which housed the collection of František Trefanec for decades. The cabinet has a solid oak body and spruce drawers lined with period paper.

The prize is provided as is and cannot be exchanged for cash.
5. Winner Selection and Announcement
The winner will be drawn on 15 November 2026 from all participants who meet the conditions set out in Section 3.
The Organizer will contact the winner by email or phone. With the winner’s consent, the Organizer may publish the winner’s name on its website and social media.
If the winner does not respond within 14 days, they forfeit the prize and the Organizer will draw an alternate winner.
6. Prize Collection
The winner must collect the prize in person at the Organizer’s Prague branch (Biskupská 8, 110 00 Prague 1) on a date agreed with the Organizer. The winner is responsible for transporting the prize at their own expense. The Organizer does not ship the prize.
7. Personal Data Protection
By sending the email under Section 3, participants consent to the processing of their personal data in accordance with the General Data Protection Regulation (EU) 2016/679 (GDPR). The data will be used solely to organize and evaluate the giveaway and to hand over the prize.
Participants have the right to access, rectify or erase their data, to restrict its processing and to object to processing. Consent may be withdrawn at any time in writing at the Organizer’s registered address.
8. Final Provisions
The Organizer reserves the right to modify or cancel the giveaway. This giveaway is in no way sponsored, endorsed, administered by or associated with Facebook.
